I only feel awkward if I am praying aloud in public, but that's only because I am a shy person. Mostly I pray silently and when I'm alone. Then I feel like I am talking to a perfect friend. If I ask God a question, I also listen with my mind, if a thought pops into my head that wasn't expected, I consider if it would be from God or not. When my husband was diagnosed with cancer I asked God if we will have a long life together. The answer I got was that we would have a long and full life together. (He didn't say happy.) My husband now has no cancer. If I could see God's face I know he would be smiling down at me, He loves all His children and I am one. God doesn't want us to feel guilt or shame, those feelings are from the devil. God made you, He not only loves you, He thinks your FANTASTIC! Best wishes.

I felt awkward the first time I kissed a girl, I felt awkward getting my diploma, and I felt awkward the first time I talked to God and he answered. Like should I kneel, but it was cool, God doesn't stand on minor formalities. So, rest assured after a while the strange awkwardness disappears.
