How do I say " Merry Christmas and happy new year " in German, please help, thank you.

What "Yoppo" wrote, is ok.
You can also say : Ein frohes Weihnachtsfest und ein gutes neues Jahr or
Fröhliche Weihnachten or
glückliche Weihnachten
and for happy new year, we often use :
einen guten Rutsch ( don't ask me where this expression has it's origin )
So,
merry x-mas and a happy new year
