it holds feces???? that is so gross. i have a paper due on monday about it and am coming up with nothing

It has no modern function. It is thought to be a primitive remnant of some functioning part of the colon. It usually does not 'erupt', like a volcano, but it may burst if an infection goes undiagnosed.

The appendix is useless to modern man. However, there are some who believe that it was once used to help in the digestion of raw meat. Just google it!

appendix has no function (probably did for our ancestors many years ago) It erupts when it gets impacted with feces and infected and is not removed in time.

Hmm.. good question
no one really nows what causes it you erupt!
not even doctors
I almost had one when i was 10 or 11 but I was jut constipated
but.... the appendix is a useless body part
it does nothing!
you'd be better without it!!

In quadrupeds appendix digests cellulose. In fully evolved humans it is a vestegeal part. If it gets infected it is surgically removed.
