Islam is a monotheistic religion based upon the teachings of Muhammad, a 7th century Arab religious and political figure. It is the second-largest religion in the world today, with an estimated 1.4 billion adherents, known as Muslims.
Muslims believe that God revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad and that Muhammad is God's final prophet. Muslims consider the Qur'an and the traditions of Muhammad in the Sunnah to be the basic sources of Islam. Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam is an Ibrahamic religion.
Today, Muslims may be found throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, and South and Central Asia. Only about 20 percent of Muslims originate from Arab countries Islam is the second largest religion in many European countries, such as France, which has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe, and the United Kingdom.

I got some basic knowledge about Islam. I would recommend a book tittle, "What Every One Needs to Know About Islam." by John L. Esposito. Its a great book. Also at your local library you might want to check out a documentary, "Islam, Empire of Faith" You will be amazed how much we have in common when it comes to beliefs except that they seem to be more devoted to "Allah" the Arab word for God.

Yeah other then they treat thier women like crap and think it is ok to rape them, abuse them, and cover thier body up so only they can see. I know that a lot of women in Afghanistan have high suicidal rates because of the way men treat the women. If a women does not want to be with Islam no longer then she has the right to death. I forgot whawt the movie was but it was a very good documentary by this dutch dierector. He was eventually beheaded I think. Damn I forgot what it was called. But it was a great video. check it out.
