I also have an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Here are some things I do:

DO NOT LET HER GET FAT! Goldens are notoriously prone to being overweight. My girl would be huge if I let her. I don't let her. If you can't find her ribs, help her reduce and she'll live a longer healthier life.

Feed her a quality Senior food. Nothing you get at the grocery or big box stores. I personally avoid Science Diet due to the preservative Ethoxoquin, a rubber stabilizer and stabilizer. Look for food that specifies "human grade" ingredients. And food that starts with the type of meat it uses, preferably 2 sources. And avoids things like "meat by-products". Run away! "animal fat". Ick, it should specify the type of fat.

I'd also be sure to give her appropriate exercise. A minimum of a half hour walk a day.

Probably Glucosomine at this stage is good, as she starts to experience arthritis in various joints.

My Golden Girl gets acupuncture periodically, also. Just to keep her in good working order.

And love her. Golden girls are wonderful.

Hi X !!
1. Good diet a important for your 8 year old golden retriever. Improve the your dog nutrition - check out the latest information on the best foods for your dog.
2. One easy step we can take is to add crushed Brazil nuts, a source of natural forms of selenium, to your dog' food.
Selenium is an essential trace mineral of fundamental importance to canine health. Adequate selenium is necessary for the normal functioning of the immune system and thyroid gland. Selenium is receiving considerable attention for its possible role as an effective naturally occurring anti-carcinogenic agent.
3. Good exercises a important for your dog. Many dogs do not get proper (a 8 year old ) amounts of exercise.
4. Follow the new vaccination protocol. Vet a telling you about it.

sI try to feed my dogs a natural diets all raw containing bones, meat, fruit vegetables, oats and rice plus little thing that will help like kelp, brewers yeast, dolomite, etc. This takes more time to make then just getting processed junk out of a bag but at least you know what is going into your dog not by products or chemicals!

Main thing is keeping them at a good weight. If your dog is fat you are basically slowly killing them taking years off them that they could have lived. Fat dogs just lie around and do nothing healthy dogs live to enjoy life :)

Glucosamine is good but not for a ling time, shark cartilage is better. I would add vitamin C to her Diet to help keep her system healthy :) Also Apple Cider Vinger is awesome stuff. A teaspoon a day. you will see a different by the next day! It attends to every thing! Apple Cider Vinger is a natural antiseptic. Great for the body :) There are plenty of books written on it :) The only thing is that it doesn't tast great but most dogs will eat it mixed in with there food :)

Hope your Goldy has a lovely long happy life with you :)

I would feed an older dog better dog food like science diet or one of the types of dog food that has low ash content and isn't full of fillers like corn, that just goes through them. I would also give your dog a little bit of soft food every other day. No table scraps. I would give your dog things to chew on like pig hooves or pig ears. They love those. I would take your dog in to the vet at least every year and have blood drawn to check for serious problems. This is what I did for my 18 yr old cat. She had to be put to sleep a few months ago and I have had her forever. Because I took good care of her she had a good life. Our pets do so much for us it's the least we can do.

Is it a hind leg? Has she been particularly lively over her lifetime, could have ruptured a cruciate ligament in her hind leg. My puppy had identical issues. Would rise up stiff while laying down for a even as, then could appear to get larger however nonetheless had the limp. Then in every single place once more once you have up from napping or resting. Not suggesting whatever simply inspiration it could support. Sounds such as you men get to make a travel to the vet. It's hell getting historic!
