I took my 6 month old 2 pound Singapura in this morning to get spayed, I live in Singapore - a country that hates cats and didn't feel that comfortable with it but they assured me everything would be fine. They called me to tell me her breathing was labored and if I would like them to begin the procedure anyway - I said no (common sense!) and now she's home. She's acting very very drugged and wobbling when she walks and is just being very not herself. I have her in her favorite spot with her favorite towel over her and she just looks pitiful. Is this normal after anesthesia - I'm very worried. Please help!

The vet said she's fine but this is also a vet that asked me if she should continue a procedure after she realized the cat isn't breathing right. I need some personal experiences. Thanks!

She's also extremely thirsty... is it okay to give her as much water as she likes?

You may have to start a search for a really good vet in Singapore, it may be difficult but it's definitely worth it since you obviously care and you want someone who will care as much as you do. Yes that is totally normal, same thing happens to humans too after surgery (I hate it). You just have to make sure she is comfortable and you can give her water but don't let her eat very much because she may throw it up (she may not want to eat at all). Anesthesia lowers your body temperature so make sure she is warm and comfy.

P.S. Just as there are different ways of putting humans under, there are different ways of putting cats under, but you may have to look around a bit.

Sounds normal to me. Often the vet keeps the animal overnight (where I live) to recover from anesthesia. But I have had a couple of dogs come home the same day, and that is how they acted.
If your cat had an abnormal reaction to anesthesia, or if they gave her too much, it might take her longer than normal to recover, but she is walking so I'm pretty sure she will be okay.
The next problem is, finding a vet that can spay her properly, since she may have an abnormal reaction to anesthesia.
Greyhound dogs react abnormally to anesthesia, and there is a different way that they anesthetize them. So I guess the same could be done for a cat; but the vet has to know how.

Good call on not letting them proceed. I'm all in favor of spaying cats, but not when it risks their life.

She will be groggy and uncoordinated until the anaesthesia wears off, that's normal. It sounds like they might have overdosed her, but there's no way of telling without a vet checking her over. There may not be that many vets in Singapore, but you need to see if you can find another one. If you know any other cat-lovers who have had their own cats spayed, ask them who did it and take her to that vet. She does need to be spayed, but try to find someone who actually likes cats to do the job - they'll be much more careful about it.

When my cats were spayed the smallest one was like this after she come round from the anesthetic, she was very sleepy for over a day and her eyes were half shut I was worried sick but was told to just keep an eye on her. She was also wobbly but after 2 days she was back to herself thank God. Ring the vet though if she's like this later just for some advice.
