I have a nine week old Beagle puppy. We were warned by our breeder that Beagles like to chew everything - like one person suggested she is probably teething. How old is she? Dogs normally teeth around four-five months. She should have all her shots by 12 weeks.

With the chewing, the best thing to do is be patience. She is just a puppy - she isn't naughty, she isn't a bad dog she just doesn't know what is wrong and what is right. As her owner it is your job to make sure your dog knows the proper behaviour and also to train her in an appropriate way. Everytime she chews something, try replacing what she is chewing with a toy or something she is allowed to get her teeth around. It will take time and patience and training but it is perfectly normal. Try taking her to some obedience classes too.

OMG - I can't believe people are suggesting your get rid of your puppy!! Please don't do that. It probably wasn't a good idea to buy a pup when you had a toddler and were pregnant (most breeders won't sell a pup to people with babies/toddlers because it can be too much for the owner to handle). She is your dog now and your responsibility, chewing things is a perfectly normal thing that most puppies do, it is NOT a reason to throw your dog away. With patience, time and training your pup's behaviour will change, my god she is only a puppy! If you feel it is too much to handle contact a dog trainer and they will be able to come to your house and show you the best way to train your pup. There are also sprays you can buy to put on your furniture (try your local dog supply shop) that will deter the pup from biting it. Just because it is a bit difficult is NO reason to give your dog away. For goodness sake, puppies chew things. Remember, it is NOT the puppy's fault she is doing this - yelling at her/smacking her etc is not going to stop her. Try distraction techniques and praise her for doing the right thing. Please don't give her away for chewing :(

It seems like you have a lot to deal with a toddler a dog pregnant and a new puppy you might want to consider finding her a new home for the sake of all of you! And not getting the dog her shots is very dangerous, she can contract life threatening diseases just going outside! Also puppies chew by nature get her a lot of chew toys and snacks! Praise her when she is behaving how you like and ignore the bad behavior! She will soon learn she only gets the attention she craves, when she is behaving! All the best, and you really should contact your local SPCA or vet for more advice! Or where you can find a no kill or rescue organization to take her for you!

Not sure what your question is, but I would suggest getting the puppy her shots. As for the chewing, she's probably teething so she'll need something to chew on just like a baby. You can give her rawhide bones, pig ears, cow hooves..they carry that stuff at pet stores and supermarkets.

Perhaps getting a puppy now wasn't a good choice. Will the breeder take her back?

You can use something like Bitter Apple or Yuck to get the puppy to stop chewing. Can you get her more exercise? Puppies chew a lot more when they are underexercised and bored.
