It seems to me that most artists are a little crazy (I'm not excluding myself...). It seems to add to the artwork, in my opinion-creative genius cannot be dull and bland if it is truly creative genius.
On the same hand, I've heard some say that he hung out with hippies. If he did, drugs would have been likely.
Another thing to consider is that it has been proven that some families tend to have more geniuses in them than others and that the same families also tend to have a high rate of mental illnesses.
Want another theory to think about? I just saw the 'Death of Dali' MySpace page...plenty of interesting ideas in the trailer alone...

Maybe someone out there knows for sure, but it's not unreasonable to think that he could have been drug-free.
There are plenty of delusional people walking this earth (I'm not saying Dali was delusional here) that need no drugs to "see" plenty of stuff that isn't there. Who's to say there aren't shades of grey?
The guy was probably just an eccentric that had a great and vivid imagination.
Personally I can't see how he could have worked on his paintings under the influence of some psychoactive hallucinogen (any kind of opiate). The work is so detail oriented in technique, it takes a lot of concentration to do that sort of thing. Now if you were talking stimulants, like cocaine or speed... I could get on board that train of logic.

Dali was a very gifted Artist. One of the main components of the Creative experience..is to SEE things in a whole different way. Look around you...an artist's "eye" will see wonders galore.Stimulants: Coffee,Alcohol,extreme joy can open doors to perception. Once viewed through these open doors/windows the world becomes larger & more detailed.He COULD have consumed mushrooms or another form of natural hallucinogen. Maybe

I think he said 'everyone aught to take/eat hashish at some time ¨' Is that a drug ??? And he said he was drugs so he didn't need to take them but i suppose if you believe that you believe anything !!

No but if you've seen his documentaries - you'll realize that he was a little kookoo...if you know what I mean.
