severe abominal pain (different than with IBS). My primary doc can not find a cause, says no hernia and no cut, scratch, etc inside naval. The worse the pain, the more it bleeds. I am at my wits end, I can't take the pain and discomfort any longer. What type of specialist should I see? Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi IBS is really quite painful, not to mention the bouts of diarrhoea or constipation.

Those who suffer from IBS often know what triggers an attack, but no two sufferers are the same. Has your doctor done a Gasroscope/Colonoscopy?

It might worth trying mint tea, increase your water intake and increasing your fibre too. But may I suggest that you see an allergist to rule out gluten intolerence, or food allergy.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if I'm understaning what you're saying, but it sounds like you're saying that you have (1) severe abdominal pain and (2) bleeding from your naval. Is that right?

For the abdominal pain you need to see a gastroenterologist, a specialist in the digestive system.

For the bleeding from your naval, I'd first talk to the gastro specialist, and if he doesn't find any cause, go to a dermatologist.

I hope you feel better soon.

I too have IBS, and am having a different kind of abd pain, I have been through this before. Likely this is diverticulitis....an infection of the intestines, and a disease. If not that, then colitis or hemmrhoids. You need to see a gastroenterologist, have a colonoscopy. I feel your pain! But it's nothing to be ignored, trust me, it just gets worse!

Try taking MSM - start with 500 mg a day and add another 500 mg every other day til you are taking 8 grams (8000 mg).
Also try enteric coated peppermint oil capsules as directed (Peppermint Plus, by Enzymatic Therapy). It has helped a lot of people with IBS. Good luck.

See another doctor for sure - it cant hurt to have a second opinion - dont ignore any bleeding. Also try eating lots of yoghurt as it can help sooth iritable bowl syndrome. Keep a diary for two weeks and see what foods trigger you off - stress does not help either so try relaxation excercises. Good luck.

Do a search on the internet, but several, several types of food will cause upset stomachs/IBS. Lactose, high carbs, high sugars, a lack of fiber, cabbage and broccoli (killers to your stomach!!), meats, wine, caffeine, pastas, oily foods, creamy foods, so many foods it's hard to even remember. And it's an experiement, what might bother you might not bother me, it's all individual. Sorry to ramble but it's really about the foods you eat, but you'll have to find the foods that hurt you.
