It would take ten to fifteen years for the first seasons planting of trees to grow into reproductive maturity.
How many can be planted in a year?
How much land must be replanted?
As an uneducated guess, I'd say you have at least a two-hundred year project on your hands.

It takes about 20 years for a tree to mature. Thinking in % of land area doesn't give a good indication of how many trees are needed. You can attach a monetary value to planting a tree, and then multiply by the number of trees you need to plant to not only reforest, but also supply lumber needs, which was why the land was deforested in the first place. The time required is the number of trees divided by the rate at which you can plant them. You also need to allow for attrition, trees that simply die as a result of being transplanted.

I don't know how much it'll cost but I'm going to guess that it can take anywhere between 50 years(about the time for stable growth of trees to look almost like forests, if for somereason ppl decided to abandon homes and cities and start replanting trees) to long time??(because if we keep industrializing(don't know if this is actually the correct term) and making homes--which i don't know if we can help it b/c population is growing at "exponential rate"--we may never get to 40%) sounds goofy doesn't it?
