Yes and no. The ethical debate is well grounded and I totally support the pro-life attitude BUT I dont really believe life begins at conception. Yes the embryo will eventually turn into life but if that child knew that it was saving millions of lives would it let itself be used for mankind? Progress is made on overstepping boundaries, and if this has to be done it should.
There is adult stem cells(somatic stem cells) being studied at the moment and i believe both adult and embryonic stem cells should be used, but more so adult. Imagine having to die from a degenerative disease where you slowly knowingly die without any sort of assistance. More HAS and SHOULD be done for the millions dying all over the world, people born with mental physical problems. The people campaigning for pro-life are probably all healthy themselves, put them in a person with down syndrome and let them see what the world looks like.
Thats my two cents!

as the famous cliche' states "the end does not justify the means"..no matter how many scientists, geneticists or whoever they are who research on this,i think this is immoral..using life to preserve another is the greatest dilemma that has occured in our society..on my part,i'm torn between saying that at some point this could be helpful because i think on how a "big" life is being preserved by a tiny life, and saying that at some point neither of us has the right to decide or use that tiny precious human embryo to cure another..life against life?i don't think so..you wouldn't risk ur human embryos would you?i won't..so i say it's bad..

I think it's bad in one way and not the other way round. If the researchers are able to get a genetically abnormal embryo they can work on that other wise it's not advisable to do the research. Because ultimately whatever we discover nothing could make humans immortal, If we take a medicine for back pain we may get problem with our liver. Like wise if we do the reserach and discover a drug another desease may arise. For this purpose killing a small living creature which wishes to live in this beautiful world is definitely a crime.

No. We should apply human rights to human beings as soon as they can be considered human beings. If testing on human embryos will build up our understanding of medical science and help us conceive medication for sicknesses that are killing millions of people, it is worth it. Saying testing on human embryos is wrong is like saying animal testing is wrong. What should matter more, the civil liberties of guinea pigs or the possibility of saving human lives?

There is and has been research using embryonic stem cells. This work in being done in foreign countries and in the USA by privately funded companies. The government ban is not on embryonic stem cell research but just the use of tax payers funds to do the research.

At this point there have not been any successes using embryonic stem cells. There have been successes using adult stem cells. There are plenty of stem cells available from umbilical cord blood etc. What the backers of the research really want to do is make a baby, kill it, clone it and see what happens.

The reason for the all the pressure to use cloned humans for stem cell research is the possibility of enormous financial gains.
The backers of such plans want you to believe there are great medical breakthroughs just waiting to be discovered.

Considering that the embryos that are used are going to die either way, I really don't see how anyone can argue that it's bad. No one is asking to be allowed to kill embryos for research, just to use embryos that are discarded by fertility clinics for research instead of simply destroying them. Those embryos are going to die no matter what. Whether killing embryos is murder is not at issue. Would you consider it morally wrong for the parents of a murdered child to donate his organs to save another life?

Stem cells usage is more complex than that. Irreparable damage can now be treated that is a miracle. Plus recently they have found a way to produce stem cells without embryonic tissue.

Short answer: Duh!
Longer and more intelligent answer: Lets kill a baby to use it's cells for someone more important. OK??

Stem cells are available other places, for instance, in umbilical cord blood that is generally thrown away anyway. Wouldn't the easy answer be to use those??

Naturally aborted embryos are good and ethical.

Yes. Stem cells are found in ADULTS as well as children and infants. There is a lot of research that has been done on sheep stem cells as well.
