I get the wierdest migraines... it starts out as a whitish half circle that is in my vision, like a really bad blind spot.. as soon as this goes away (usually within a half an hour) i get a pounding dense headache. Sometimes it is accompanied by a really weird smell, that really isnt there. I have had these for about for about 8 years. I have been told they are called migraines with auras, and i have heard it called something else but i forgot the name. If any one else has these please let me know about it! If anyone can tell me what exactly is going on, please help?! I have tried to research it on the internet but i dont really get anywhere. HELP!

Migraines are often genetic. So if your mother or father has a history of Migraines then you most likely will have them. Migraines run on both sides of my family. Many things can trigger them. Lack of sleep, lack of food, hormones, stress, etc. It helps to stay in a dark, quiet room until it subsides. Excedrin helps, but sometimes you need something stronger. Some people grow out of them and some do not. I had migraines as a youth and into adulthood. When I had my first child they stopped. Each of my four children have had them. If I were you I would ask your doctor to prescribe something to help you through those days. Good luck.

I have had auras since I was 11 (now 42.) My father only had the auras like you with no headache. I get the auras followed by the headache. When I was younger, my auras would begin with a zig zag line that would move through my vision. I called it my two headed dragon. It would sometimes be accompanied by a sensation that the world dropped a little bit below my feet, almost a falling. Then I would lose a quarter of my vision. This would be followed by the numbness, which traveled up my arm, moving in chunks, and into my face, nostrils and sometimes my tongue. The side I was numb on told me that the headache that followed would be on the other side of my body (left controls the right, etc.) Often, I would not be able to talk, because the words would not come out as I intended. I would sound intoxicated. If I was typing, I had difficulty typing the sentences as I intended as well. My headache would follow the vision being restored (usually about 45 minutes later) but often the numbness would continue or reassert itself into the period of pain. I would vomit often, but that could have been the horrid pills given to me by the doctor. Now I do not experience the weakness and numbness in my hands as often. I still have the visual disturbances before my headaches, which is my warning to take an attack medication. I don't throw up anymore. My headaches are not as severe, probably because I am on a daily medication. Make sure you understand the difference between migraine aura and stroke symptoms. They are very close, and studies have shown that migraine sufferers with auras are at greater risk than migraine sufferers without auras of having a ischemic stroke. I don't think the fact that you are not having headache matters. According to the American Red Cross, stroke warning signs are sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body, sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding, sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, sudden, severe headache with no known cause. HMMMMMMMM.... Sound familiar to most migraine sufferers with auras? See the problem? In my recent first aid class, my instructor said if I were to smile during a stroke, more likely than not one side of my face would be droopy. Also, if I raised my arms up to the same level, I would not be able to raise the arm up on the side impacted by the stroke. I know the American Red Cross doesn't endorse this test, but given that the above is my symptomology every time I have a headache.... I don't see what else I can do. You are not weird, abnormal, or odd. This is a normal part of migraines and not having the actual headache is also not odd. This also runs in my family. Be grateful and be careful. Good luck.

Hi Lola Sugar

If you want to unblock the energy in your aura then go to a pranic or reiki healer. They can unblock the channels of energy for you. That is very real and it would open all your channels and start the healing process.

But migraines are mainly a bowel issue. WHen you dont have 3 regular bowel movements a day the toxins move up into the blood and that is what causes illness and disease. You must remove the toxins from the blood and also do a liver cleanse cause that'a the organ that filters in out clean blood in the body.

Be sure to do a colon cleanse every quarter and drink a gallon of water a day (I do just for general health). Meditation is also wonderful.

Best of health to you

It sounds like you have seizures. I had epilpesy and epilpesy can trigger weird smells and give certain people migraines depending on what type of seizures they are having. You should go see a neuroligist and he can run a test of your brain and give you more information as what's going on. Aura's are a type of a mild seizure but if you let it go untreated sometimes they get worse as time goes by. I started out with petit mal and as I got older I ended up with complex partal seizures and now I just get aura's. But as I said don't put this off as if you do they will blame you for not taking care of the problem. Ask your family doctor if he can recommend a good neuroligist for you if not the hospitals alway's have very good neurolists.

I've had the same thing. I'd never had one in my life until about 5 years ago then I had 5 in about a week. It then went for a few months and I got a couple more. Then nothing for about 3 years and about 6 months ago, I had about another 4 in a week. I've been to doctors and optometrists and neither have been any help. The only thing I found helped a little was as soon as I got the auro to knock down a couple of anti-imflammatory pain killers before the pain came. It didn't help much though. I also used one of those gel cold packs over my eyes

Well, I poop and still have migraines. I haven't had one in about a year (thank God!) but they start out with my vision getting blurry and little white dots appear. I feel disoriented, puke, and hide where it's dark and quiet. The only way they go away is for me to get to sleep somehow. You may want to talk to your doc about Imitrex. I heard it helps, but Excedrin Migraine can hold you over until you do.
