I finally went to the doctor today about my chronic insomnia, anxiety, and lightheadedness. My doc says that it's PPD and prescribed a mild anti-depressant. Is it normal (I've had the insomnia for almost two years now) to have PPD this late after brith? My daughter is a preemie and yep, I blame myself for her early and complicated delivery also.

You have probably had the PPD the whole tme just not realized it. I had it after my son was born. He was an extremely difficult baby and I had a hard time bonding with him. I didn't think I was depressed. It wasn't until he was almost 20 mos old, and I had an anxiety attack and ended up seeing a counselor that I realized I was probably depressed the whole time. Even if it is just depression, and not PPD, it doesn't really matter as long as you are taking care of yourself now. I would recommend a counselor to talk thru all your feelings and emotions.

Don't blame yourself...that is a part of God's plan for HER, has nothing to do with you, so let it go...self blame where kids are concerned is the work of the devil...and PPD is very real and at it's finest 16 months -24 months after delivery. So, lighten up...keep it in focus, reminding yourself that THAT is what it is. Hang in there...it will go away.

Yes, it can be. I was depressed a whole year after my first child. I went through an open adoption process and it is quite possible. Pregnancy can trigger depression and lots of other mental problems. It is either natural or hidden and just is triggered. I wouldn't worry too much about it and take the meds keep positive etc. Thats what I had to do.
