Oh be careful, there is a gal in here that copies and pastes whenever anyone asks that question. Apparently she's a bit embittered by the question. I think we all have an idea why some are here. Some I think are here out of curiosity and love debate and discussion but others are here to stroke their over weaning egos by putting down others whom they deem "inferior" in their own minds.
I've seen some atheists have real discussions in here that have a lot of merit, but I've also seen nastiness and vile and synical commentary. People are people. I personally enjoy the open discussions with some of the atheists that are kinder in how they word things. They many times ask questions that christians want to know answers to so they serve "my" purpose here if and when I am ever able to answer those questions with any clarity. I try. Just enjoy the nice atheists and the other atheists that aren't so kind, can go suck on a lemon. LOL

Because the title to this is religion AND spirituality. While I do not call myself an atheist, because I do believe in God, I cannot bear the ignorance of people who just accept what they are told instead of finding out for themselves. We are each born into different households with different beliefs. If you are a Christian, but another person is born into a Hindu family, will that person burn in hell because of something that they could not control?
WHy is it that all of the hateful and discriminating questions here are always posted by people who call themselves followers of Christ? Shouldn't you try to set an example of love, acceptance, and forgiveness? I am thankful not to be lumped in with this herd.
Organized religion is a joke-something that people made up along the way to comfort themselves and force structure into a belief that shouldn't need it.
And if a person chooses to be atheist, that does not mean that they are not spiritual. Just because someone doesn't believe in the God that you do doesn't make them any less human, or spiritual, or deserving of an interest or a voice. It is the discrimination against anyone here that is an abomination. Doesn't "your religion" teach against shunning people? The childish waste of time is committed when people ask questions just to make another group of people feel unwanted or cast aside.

When the whole world will recognise that all problems can be solved by reason and logic people will be at peace. Someone mentioned that countries that have the least number of religious people (Sweden, Denmark, Holland) are the most peaceful, have the least crime, and people get along with each other better.
Reason and logic should not be confined to the solution of scientific and technological problems. They should be applied to solving the existential and philosophical problems that give us the guidelines for behaving with one another, that is ethics and morality. Faith-based philosophies fail to guide because they are rooted in the unreal and subjective: they spread the notion that the truth is a matter of divine revelation, instead of intelligent discovery, so what God says to you can be different from God says to me. My God is the right one, yours doesn't speak to me. this is all very subjective! What humans need is objective precepts. They come from reason and logic. Precepts that come from reason will help you make decisions, choose the right job, marry the right person, find your happiness. Precepts that come from faith are impractical, if applied at all. You cannot choose a job on faith, or a partner for life, otherwise your choice can easily range from consulting a crystal ball or praying to Allah or Vishnu.

It's not that atheists "don't believe in anything", they just don't believe in what theists believe. Maybe they're just as irritated with the religious views of people in the Religion & Spirituality section as you are with their views. But then again, maybe you have a point. It's not like they're going to change any minds.

Why do you ask questions particularly for atheists in case you actually have self belief they are able to "stupid comments". Why would you waste your time? the concern is that once you listen the note "faith" you imagine christianity has a monopoly on it. I hate to inform you, even though it really is conceivable to debate faith subjectively without christianity (or any faith) being presented into the equation. So, relax Francis.

I think the same as you, except about the people talking about Creation on the Anthropology section. Also, some of the questions in R&S do relate to evolution, mainly trying to debunk it, so it seems reasonable to answer.

Because they are attracted to what is truth. On the surface they are trying to scorn it and trample it into oblivion but their spirit is attracted to what it knows to be true. The natural man and the spirit must become one. Atheists allow the natural man to guide their journey through life while the Christian or religious man allows his spirit to guide him. And so here they are on Yahoo Answers in the section for spiritual uplift and guidance and trying to convince them selves that their spirit doesn't really exist.

What, because were Atheist were not spiritual?
Atheist are here because they want to understand what makes someone give up on logic and reason for religion? We are looking for some sort of rational answer to a rational question...since that has yet to happen, we are still here. With that in mind, we'll be here for a long long time.
Besides, it says right here in my instructions from Satan that I am to: lead others away from God.

Simple. Satan instructs them to lead others away from God. After all, if life were truly without meaning and the end of the universe meant the annihilation of all human endeavors, there would be no point to living at all. It would, in fact, be a huge waste of time. Any atheist, therefore, who is still breathing is a hypocrite, or is actually a servant of a different agenda - Satan's.

I have to confess, i had been wondering the same thing. Probably the ridicule the believers thing. But even they have a religion, it is just one that makes them their own god, or master of their world.
