Is there actually a high risk of catching a bad disease from eating something a cat has licked or put their mouth on, due to all the germs a cats mouth contains (mice etc.)?

Rabies can be transmitted through saliva. And yes, its a pretty bad disease. The probability that you're gonna die from it if symptoms already appeared is 99%. If the cat has rabies then.. you know what happens next..
