gettting them taken off doesn't hurt at all, your teeth will feel really slimy. It's not a bad thing at all. My advice is to wear your retainer

Do not worry!! It does not hurt and it is nothing compared to adjustments.
The weird thing is having people in you mouth with wire cutters . Lots of snapping noises. You think ,oh all that noise can not be good!! You may be frightened at first but once your brain realizes there is no pain associated with the noise you will calm down.
One more note if you are still a kid consider yourself lucky. I wore a retainer after having braces taken off, through my sophomore year at college.

Nope doesn't hurt at all! Just feels like a different experience. They pull off the brackets, then use like a sander to get the cement off. Definitely doesn't hurt, just can get awkward at times. You will love your smile afterwards though. Your teeth will feel so smooth!

When I got my braces off, it didn't hurt at all. It felt really weird and slimmy though when I ran my tongue over my teeth. But, I loved it. It takes about two hours, and you really don't feel a thing.
