Don't worry, in my opinion it is the best day to travel. Traveling on Christmas Day or Thanksgiving Day is probably the least stressful times in the USA. I have traveled on Thanksgiving Day twice (once pre 9/11 Boston and once post 9/11 Providence) They have been the easiest travel of my life.

People are very friendly, it is a holiday and you are traveling. I find myself having longer conversations with the airport staff, they too are "holiday sick" and would like the company. There is hardly anybody in the airport (most people travel before and after the holiday, not during) It is an eary feeling to see the airport so empty. There is no traffic on the road (people are all in doors enjoying the holiday)

Christmas day itself is a very slow travel day. If your flight is domestic I think getting there an hour and half before flight time should be more than enough. If its an international flight be there at least 2 hours prior.

Well I have been looking into LAX and just heard that Die Hard 3 is filming there randomly around the holiday so good luck! Make sure you get LOTS of extra time just in case they are there on the day you fly out too.
