You're right - it is natural. It's also natural that we find our own poo offensive. This is why we dispose of our poo and try to get it as far away from us as possible. It is why, most of us anyway, find the smell offensive as well. It's nature's way of insuring we don't do something stupid like try to eat it or give it to someone as a Christmas present. I don't think it's taboo to talk about poo in general. It starts to become mildly taboo when you get personal about it. Like asking "What color was your poo this morning?" or "When you wipe your butt do you do it standing or sitting?" Most people don't like to talk about what goes on in their bathrooms - that's the taboo essentially. It's why we put doors on bathrooms.

Depends on where and when you're talking about it and to whom as well. You certainly should'nt mention it at the dinner table or to a distinguished guest. After all, "S**t", has always been used to represent something bad happening e.g. "The S**t hit the fan" So all reference to that word/object generally is "taboo".
