I don't know why anyone would want to speak ebonics. It was a language created by slaves so that the slave master couldn't understand what they were talking about. Why would any one want to revert back to a language spoken by slaves?

Language is a living thing and is always evolving. The dictionary is supposed to be a reference including terms which are in common usage as well as terms which are archaic. The book would become useless pretty quickly if it was never updated to include the bits of slang that 'stick'.

re ebonics
Ebonics
n : a nonstandard form of American English spoken by some
American Black people [syn: Black English, Black
English Vernacular, Ebonics]
http://dict.die.net/ebonics/
re bling
"Bling-bling" (usually shortened to simply "bling") is a hip hop slang term which refers to expensive jewelry and other accoutrements, and also to an entire lifestyle built around excess spending and ostentation. In its essence, the term refers to the exterior manifestation of one's interior state of character, normally displayed through various forms of visual stimuli.

1. Hip-Hop
A culture and form of ground breaking music and self expression with elements that consisted of the elements of graffiti art, DJing, MCing, and breaking. Today Hip-Hop is considered to be dead in the mainstream because so-called mainstream Hip-Hop doesn't have the elements of hip-hop and have no meaning.
The stuff on MTV and the radio can't be called Hip-Hop because the lyrics don't have any meaning or self expression. Wack artists today just rap about their shopping lists and other bull****

_______
Before I threw in my two cents I did a litle research.
Does not look as though the term "bling" falls into the Ebonics category.
Ebonics being Black English Vernacular
vernacular
1 a : using a language or dialect native to a region or country rather than a literary, cultured, or foreign language b : of, relating to, or being a nonstandard language or dialect of a place, region, or country c : of, relating to, or being the normal spoken form of a language

If bling is "hip hop" term then I think it falls into the category of slang ....like the word "groovy" which I also found in the dictionary.
I grew up in the sixties and the word groovy was not in widespread use amoung the average common person on the street.
Media and advertisers picked up on the word and they the ones that used it more than the person on the street.
Main Entry: groovy
Pronunciation: 'grü-vE
Function: adjective
Inflected Form(s): groov·i·er; -est
1 : MARVELOUS, WONDERFUL, EXCELLENT
2 : HIP, TRENDY

_____
It would not have ended up in dictionary if middle class white posers and Music industry execs and advertisers did not latch onto it.
Fear not......it will fade away and sit in the dictionary...unused.
I think it is easier to get a word into dictionary than to take it out.
Cause who says "groovy"? But it is still in there.

Because famous people use it all the time to sound cool. Thus, all the kids try to use them to be like their idols. I don't mind when people with African background use them, as it kind of represents their culture. But I don't get why people from other ethnicities keep using them.

if you've seen the movie "Farienheit 9/11" or bowling for colombine michael more observes the fact that were all kept under control through fear. so the media and the government permotes gangster rap. hence BET and the rap takeover of mtv. so now were all afraid of blacks because we accociate them with gangs. and were all afraid, hence they permote ebonics because it makes whites fear blacks. it creats racism, and as long as the people are devided then we can't take over the government

its not stupid. Blacks should be allowed to speak like this in their community because it gives them a sense of belonging. That being said, they should also understand that just like us Latinos speak proper English whenwe're supposed to, job interviews and such, they should do the same
