My female cat goes limp and falls over when trying to bring up a hairball. She falls head first like she is losing air but then after it comes up she is fine. This is very scary has anyone experienced this? I have had other cats and never experienced this. I will pick her up and set her back down but she can't stand on her legs they just go completely limp. But then she will be fine.....what is happening? She will be going to a vet obviously but any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

Never experienced this and have had several cats-have one now,Sweetie. Can only think since she seems to keel over and goes limp that the hairball is somehow obstructing her air flow-blocking the oxygen intake-only thing that would have her go limp bu recover fairly quickly. Its good she is going to the Vet-perhaps has a smaller airway than is usual or somehow airway being constricted with a hairball. Brush her daily and give NUTRO Dry Cat Food-COMPLETE for has things in it to cut down on hairballs-but the brushing is beneficial in getting rid of loose fur-less for her to swallow then. Good Luck----MERRY CHRISTMAS

Check out my questions of today, I also have a cat prone to hairballs - I got some excellent answers today on how to prevent.
I've never had a cat fall over and then be unable to stand, but I've seen my cat Zorro choke really badly for a long time before he coughs up something really awful. It is very scary. Definately see your vet!
BTW, My cat absolutley LOVES Friskies Hairball remedy treats. He gets all kinds of hairball food and treatment, but that's the one he ASKS for.

I think that might be a hairball. My kitten did the same thing and out came a nasty looking hairball. My vet gave me something called Laxatone a lubricant for the elimination and prevention of hair balls simply place a small amount on the nose or paws then they will lick it. It works...I give it to my cats all the time and havent had anymore problems. Good Luck ;)

You need to give her hairball medication...it's like a chocolatey tube of ointment you put on the paw, and they lick it off. This helps against the formation of hairballs. Definitely tell your vet about this...sounds like the airway is temporarily blocked causing her to pass out or have a seizure

You absolutely need to give your cat hairball medication. You can get it anywhere! The vet will have it, a grocery store will have it, a pet store will have it, etc, etc, etc.

that sounds very scary. I think its very necessary for you to take your cat to the vet. sounds like shes almost dying from losing air .. but hopefully not because that is pretty scary. but good luck to you and your cat at the vet:)

she's more than likely using a lot of oxygen to get it out. making her limp and dizzy also.....but,you said it best.....go to a vet to be sure.

Shes passing out from lack of h air.

( actually it is probably all of the energy she must extend to cough it up, fatigue)
