Come on, you've just started dating him. You're not going to give him love letters and socks. That kind of stuff is for long term relationships.
I'd say to purchase a music download card for his MP3. Or maybe a couple of CD's if you're sure about his taste.
Nothing much more than that, because you just may end up dumping this guy after New Years! (It usually doesn't take more than one good drunk for a girl to decide if a guy is not worth the time and effort.)

Depends on how long you've know the guy. Did you just meet or were you friends first?
If you just met and are dating, something smaller like tickets to a sporting event (don't make him invite you), a shirt that costs less than $30, or maybe you take him out for a nice dinner and a movie.
If you were friends first, up the spending but still nothing too mushy, don't scare him off with hearts and flowers.

a Nintendo Wii. He'll love you after that. Make sure you get him an extra controller so he can get another buddy to play Wii sports with him as he ignores you while he's playing it. If you really love, then throw in a case of beer for extra points.
