1 Timothy 2:11-12 proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created (1 Timothy 2:13) and the way in which sin entered the world (2 Timothy 2:14). God, through the Apostle Paul’s writing, restricts women from serving in roles of spiritual teaching authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors, which definitely includes preaching to, teaching, and having spiritual authority over men.

Although there are many women today, who have come forward to be pastors and teachers over men, the Bible does not agree with their efforts. A woman's great teaching/leading field is to teach each other, younger women and children (Titus 2:3-5).

It seems the two passages most quoted are the ones from 1 Tim and 1 Cor

The issue here is CONTEXT what was the context of the times

In those times woman felt they had new found freedom from the LAw of Moses through Christ and so were refusing to cover their hair, speaking up in the Synagogue etc.

This was causing problems within the Church and so Paul had to come down firmly against this for the sake fo the Church.

(This is a very short and simple explanation of the context - forgive me )

In todays context where women have far more freedom and are unlikely to offend men by speaking out there should be no problem.

Remember also that one of the first people to spread the word about Jesus was the Samaritan woman at the well.

If Jesus had not wanted women to spread the Good News He would not have spoken to her

Hi Lauren, It doesn't say that.

It says that you need to have a Spiritual Head - that is usually a man (see the pattern Adam and Eve)

Somebody has to be responsible and God holds the men at the last point of the Buck. So if your married, you are the Pastor and your husband is not (very rare but possible), You have to Submit to His Authority, but you run the church...

Ie. Proverbs 31
Judges (Deborah)

Look I have studdied this and have none of it with me right now...
I am a Woman in Leadership (granted I am not yet the Pastor - far too much responsibility)

I believe that I could be as does my male Pastor.

It doesnt. The closest it gets is in saying "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." in I Tomothy 2:11-12, and "women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says" in I corinthians 14:34. Basically throughout the Bible, women do not play a dominant role, and are told to "submit to their husbands" it's basically a cultural thing that many say doesnt apply anymore.

What about the great pastor/evangalists like Joyce Meyer and Paula White....now they are for real.....sorry....I have read that passage too, but I think if God calls anyone, either man or woman to preach the gospel....they had better do it....lol

Timothy and Titus are used to argue the case. Both these books mentioned that Elders / Deacons should be the husband of one wife. That is pretty much where the whole argument is based.

It doesn't. As a matter of fact, there's strong evidence that Mary Magdalene - assuming she wasn't married to Jesus Christ, and maybe before she was - was one of the apostles. Kind of shoots down all the old theories that a woman's place is barefoot and pregnant and in the home raising the kids.

1Ti 2:12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

but remember context context context. Who is the book written to and what was occuring at the time and what was their worship service like. Context is very important.
