um would be nice to step out the way if anyone wanted to get through, male or female. otherwise i would think you were ignorant.

actually I'd call it a chivalrous conduct.you're being a gentleman..and i very much applaud you for it.it just means that you're considerate and polite enough to care about other people, even if you don't know them.it's also a reflection of how you were influenced or brought up, most especially by your parents.
stepping out of ones way to allow another person to pass through is and should not be gender-based.everyone can do it,only if they want to.so don't mind those who'd call you gay because of this.Cheers to you and your parents!Ü

I am gay, and a man. I ALWAYS step aside to let a lady through. I would do the same for a guy also, and NOT just because I'm gay. It's "the right thing to do", socially.

No...I'd say it's more metrosexual. There's a great article that was once published in "Talk" magazine on the "Slightly Gay Male". For example, he would know how to build furniture and then like to discuss where it should be placed in the room. Or he would ride up on a Harley and pull out a recipe clipping and say "I think we should make this". The women swoon. The men do not when you call them "slightly gay" (I know from experience...)

Hi Bill,
This gesture in no way indicates a gay move. It indicates that there are still some gentleman around.
Good for you! :)

It is not. I would step out of the way for anyone who appears to be in a hurry. It's just polite.

No. Thank you for having consideration for others. That's what manners and any rule of etiquette are about: setting others at ease and making them feel comfortable.

It's sad if only gay people have manners! (Or are expected to.)

No, it is considered polite. And it does not have to be a gesture only for a girl.

No. In fact I think everybody should do that. Not only to girls but to everybody especially when you are about to enter a lift or escalator.

Thank you for still doing that! You are definitely one of the few gentlemen out there. Some guys might laugh at you, but keep on doing it... The girls will like you more for it! Wow!
