My daughters fiance is being stationed in Japan. They plan on being married before he leaves. Can anyone give me info on the Kadena base? Housing, things to do, visitors, best things to take with them, etc?
Thanks and Happy Holidays

I have never lived in Japan. Hopefully my husband and I will make it over there before he retires.

So for Okinawa it's http://www.okinawa.usmc.mil/

I'm sorry I didn't see the Kadena part. The website for there is http://www.kadena.af.mil/

Just click on "Newcomer Info"--it should answer most questions. Her husband will also have a sponsor (already stationed over there) who will help them transition--set them up in a Temporary Living Facility (TLF) and just get them adjusted to life.

I really hope they enjoy their tour. I've heard it's beautiful. This site should give you and your daughter all the information she needs. If you need any other questions answered about overseas tours just contact me! Best of luck!

My dad was stationed in Okinawa. I was born there... but I don't know anything about it. I'm sorry... My parents say there are beautiful beaches and a great aquarium.

And seriously consider practicing traditional Karate. If she can find a good teacher (go off base!), particularly a female one, she could be awesome in a couple of years. And it might be something the two of them could do together.

It was a great base to visit.I was stationed on 'Oki' from 99-00 on Kinser.

It's probably changed now,but it was a great base when I was there.
