I will have to assume you have the intellectual capacity to get a 4.0 GPA, since you give no indication of your intellectual abilities. You are struggling, but you do not say in what? Is it sociology? Or is it physics? Big difference. If you are struggling in sociology, I would say, either, buckle;e down and study, or you do not have it ; intellectually. Get an evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses, so that you really know where you are at and where you are capable of going.
PS Do not listen to social science dweebs, who tell you, " oh, any body can be a great scholar ", because it is not true. It is not that you can set your mind to something and do anything, but more if you work hard you can do many things.

If you are struggling in school, then you might want to make your goal a little more reasonable than attaining a 4.0. How about simply improving your grades in the classes where you are struggling the most. I have a simple way for you to do just that.
TALK TO YOUR TEACHERS.
If your teacher's have office hours, use them to ask for help. If not, go see them during lunch or after school. Let them know that you are genuinely interested in improving and ask for their help. Teachers love this. It makes them feel like you care about what they teach you. This is good for you because it will bring them over to your side. The extra effort that they invest in you will make them want to see you do well. That may mean "accidentally" giving you answers to potential test questions or especially tricky homework problems. Best of all, at the end of the year, if you are borderline between receiving a "C+" or a "B-", guess what your score will be.

I am a 3.6 student and I know I've never gotten anything lower than a 95% on any assignment I've turned in or test I've done or project I've completed.
I'm also habitually up way past 2 am at least 4 nights a week studying or working on perfecting papers and projects.
I use many forms of studying for tests.
I use short hand when the professor is lecturing so I get down every word.
Then I go home and transcribe the important stuff by hand.
Then I type up that important stuff. (it's reinforcement)
I still use index cards to make notes on possible test questions so I can quiz my self and I go through these at least 5 times a day the week before the test.
Then before I test, I cram for the last 15 minutes the things off the card I don't know so they will at least be in my short term memory long enough for the test.
The most important thing though is you have to be committed and make this the number one priority in your life.
You have to be able to say no to friends, family, TV, Y!A all the stuff that isn't important to studying hard and applying yourself.
It's ok to say, "I love you , but, I'm sorry, I have a HUGE test coming up and I need all the time possible to study for it. I promise after the test we'll do something special together."
You'll be a better person in the long run for it!!Good Luck!!

to get a 4.0 you have to get all A's and no A-'s. I have always been getting a 3.95 and even to get that I struggle and work my butt off. I study and I take notes when the teacher is talking and i turn in every single piece of homework no matter what the cost. If I have to work around the clock to do something I will. It takes dedication, focus (i.e. not hanging out with your friends constantly and instead working.), and you have to really want to have a 4.0 to get it.

Yes, it is good. Well, what is your definition of good??? Not good enough for a Ivy League, but if you are hoping for something smaller and simpler and hope to have a career in something like a writer or a substitute teacher, but if your looking into something big like becoming a doctor, then you should try harder and get that up. It is a B+ and that is better than average, so you can get a decent job, but don t try something big like a plastic surgeon.

I have a 4.0, I'm graduating as a junior, and I'm in college right now as a junior. I study a lot, I do 5 hours of homework a night, I never hang out with friends, etc. I turn in every piece of homework even if it means I stay up until 3 am.

In order to get the high grades (and I did get my UGrad Degrees with High Honors) ... I did ALL my Homework -- turned in assignments on time (or early) did more than what the project wanted, and listened all the time .. READ every assignment, and the books, talked to the instructor when there was something that could be misunderstood ...
I SACRIFICED early -- because I Was the ONE Paying all the BILLS -- each and every one ... MY COLLEGE was MY Key to EARNING My way ... and that early SACRIFICE (no partying, no drinking, nothing irresponsible) allowed me
TO EARN through HARD WORK the salary that let me WALK AWAY from a short disaster of a marriage (and give up EVERYTHING I saved/earned in the process to get myself and my disabled children out with our LIVES).

The kids that have a 4.0 average have worked their butts off. They gave up horsing around with thier friends and did the work. Simple yet hard.

Take honors. It is just as easy as regular classes. There are just more projects, and stuff like that. A honors class will bump your grade on the GPA. Lets say your in a regular class and you get an 80 well that is like a 2.5...If you got that same grade in honors, then it would be considered a 90 and you would get a 3.5. Take all the honors you can. Another example if you get a 100 in a regular class you get a 4.0. If you get a hundred in a honors class you get a 5.0...But if you are in college then study hard.
