I walk everyday at a park, which has a pond. This pond has many ducks. Lately I have been watching them bop their heads up and down, and then wag their tails and whole body. Sometimes, many ducks do it at the same time. What does this mean?

They are not going down into the water, and they don't splash water over them. I was thinking that this might be a way of finding a mate?

I found this web site that says that duck in spanish is pato, and if you turn that back into english you get Pat O' Duck, Therefore these are Irish ducks in the pond are calling each other Patty.

Simply they are feeding on the plants in the water, ducks bob their heads down and stick their tails in the air so that the can reach down to the plants and it is not any mating ritual.

they are either taking a bath, and splashing the water over themselves or they are purely ducking down and digging about for food
