I bought a Samsung LCD. LCD's have a much wider viewing angle and don't have "burn-in" issues like plasmas

If you're on a tight budget a DLP may be the way to go since they're a little less expensive.

I did alot of research and found the features that I liked (2 hdmi inputs, high contrast ratio) and then went to nextag.com. This allows you to compare prices & ratings for online merchants...

Good luck!

Everyone has an opinion on this. The best thing to do is to go an look at the sets and see what you like. Nearly all new sets have excellent pictures, reliabilty, etc. But they vary in price, size, etc. Warning: do not be influenced by sales people at major stores such as Best Buy, Circit City, etc. If you need more information go to http://www.cnet.com/ to get an idea of what's available and good independent opinions.
