Our daughter is 2 and has a Little Tykes kitchen and she just loves it. She likes making a mess of it more than anything but that combined with her table and chair keeps her occupied most of the time. Another thing she likes is her toy baby stroller by Graco. It's just an umbrella type one, pretty cheap but my little cousin has one the same brand that's one of those bigger strollers with the baby seat that sits on top just like a real one and she really liked it. Something else I want to get her is a doll house.
Something else she might like is a little battery operated quad. My mom's getting our daughter one for Christmas, they have a cute one on sale on JCPenney.com for $49.99. It's a Ride-On Lil Explorer 4x4 that was originally $99.99. Unless you have a lot of room in your house it won't be very useful until it's warmer out and she can ride it outside but just a thought.
Something that almost all kids like is at that age and older is a ball pit. Here's one at Walmart.com for just under $45 that doesn't take up much space... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4921746
And my daughter has a Dora pop up play tent she really likes, doesn't take up much space and folds flat for storing.
Hope I was helpful.

At 2 1/2 we moved our daughter from her baby room into her big girl room. Other than having a refinished, recycled twin bed to sleep in, her favorite gift was the M&Ms that were in her stocking.
That was 2 years ago and I don't think she remembers anything about that day.
That said, don't stress too much. She's still at an age that less really is more.

My son just got a little easle (not sure if I have spelled that right) from his grandma. It is from walmart and it is small and he can sit down and it has a dry erase side and a chalk board side. He love it sooo much. Very good for his creative side which makes me happy. Get her something artsy like aquadoodle, magnadoodle, coloring books? Or try the leapfrog line of toys. Abc's and 123's lol. My son is also getting a cash register that counts. He also has a shoppign cart which he LOVES. He wil put things in it and count them by 10's.

My girls 2 and 4 are getting a wooden doll house from their great grandma. With all of the stuff that goes with it. People, furniture. Their grandma got them a 2 sided floor easle with all of the art supplies. They loce thier kitchen set with accessories. But at 2 she won't remember much of what she got or didn't get. This will be the last year that she won't remember.

You could try getting her a "special gift" like a bangle bracelet and maybe engrave something on it for her..."love, mommy". She could wear it on special occasions and when she gets older she could still hold on to it and remember how lucky she is to have an awesome mom like you. :)
You could make her a big toy box and decorate it especially for her (that would clean up the "small gifts" from years gone by.)
They have a toy out now that you can make forts and all kinds of stuff with. That may be for a little older, though...
You could make her a dress-up trunk and include all kinds of costumes and accessorries. Something to use her imagination!

my daughter loves her play kitchen and table and chairs...something basic, plain, no characters-- (because my daughter already dumped dora for diego and the little mermaid)
Also..you can hide some of the clutter if you get a kitchen with a bit of storage...
another sugg is to splurge on something handmade she might want to give to her daughter...a sturdy doll bed, or doll house...wood no plastic
I am working on a dress up trunk for my little girl...full of 1/2 price costumes after halloween, sparkly dollar store beads, crowns, play shoes and purses....she is gonna LOVE it!! hope this helped

I actually have began the custom of having my daughter's each somewhat of jewellery for xmas. no longer very intense priced yet no longer junk both. They get to placed on it on particular events and they'd have it for life. also, the idea of issues that you want in any case - personality sheets for her mattress, bath towels, socks, and so on. For toys, type of imagine of what toys you're figuring out to purchase for the kin and then only divide up the names so each newborn has equivalent present starting time.

We bought our 2 1/2 year old daughter nursery items for her babies (stroller, crib, swing, car seat, changing table). We got box that had everything and it wasn't too expensive...I have also seen where you can get each piece individually, but those naturally are more expensive.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and she has a play kitchen and loves it! Her grandparents got her that. This year for her big gift I have gotten her a plastic art easel. Dry erase board on one side and blackboard on the other with markers and chalk!
