Before I met my husband he woke his two very young ones (6 & 7) up at 4:45 am so that he could be on the job site by 5:30-he's a construction worker. He had full custody of them & no mom. Babysitter would put them back to bed at her home until 7:00. I guess the kids just got used to it & went to bed early. Also, he had them sleep in sweats so that they wouldn't have to change so early in the a.m. I think little ones can handle most things like that if it becomes a routine. I had to be out the door by 6:10 w/my five yr. old in order to get to work on time-sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do-good luck!

No and No.I have a 6,4, and 3 year old boys,a 1 year old girl and am 33 weeks pregnant with a little boy.The boys all go to bed at 8:00 and wake up at 7:00.My daughter goes to bed anywhere between 8:00 and 10:00 and wakes up at 7:00.Plus me ,the 4,3,and 1 year old take a nap in the morning before the 4 year old has to go to school. Why feel guilty of waking them up 'early',do they ever feel giulty for waking you up early?

It's fine as long as they get at least 9 or 10 hours of sleep at night. Children adjust to different schedules very well, and 7am is a good time to get up. When I was 5 I used to have to get up at 4:30 every morning, and I survived! ( I had to get up that early to go to my grandmas before school as my mom and dad had to go to work by 5 )

I guess I don't get it. What is there to feel guilty about? As long as the child gets enough hours of sleep in a 24-hour period with the nap counted, what difference does it make? Also, next year when your child starts kindergarten you may be waking him or her up even earlier, depending on your school's schedule. A consistent routine day in and day out will make the child most comfortable and secure. BTW, most days my four-year wakes ME up at 7:00. I would like an extra half hour if I could get it.

Unless he or she is very tired when you do it, 7am is usually a pretty normal time for a 4 year old to wake up. It may feel early to you, but especially depending on what time he goes to bed, it's probably a fine time to wake him up. Though if there isn't a reason to wake him up like preschool or daycare, I don't see a reason for not letting him wake up naturally.

I work shift work, sometimes I have to be at work at 6:45, my tot gets up at 5:30 with me. When I work 3-11, she gets up around 9-10. When I work 11pm-7am, she gets up at 8:00 with her daddy. As long as we see to it she gets her required 10-12 hours of sleep, it's no problem. I do feel guilty sometimes though, dragging her warm little body out of bed, regardless of the time.

What time do they go to bed?? I know when I was that age, my siblings and I would be up extremely early. It wasn't until I was about 10 or so that I really started sleeping in. But then, I also had a pretty early bedtime.

when my baby was first born I had to get her up at 4:30 am (at 6 months old), to get her nursed before school. Now when I work, I get her up at 6 and she is 7 years old
