Yes. She has Repetative Motion Syndrome; caused by being in the same position/performing the same movements. Long run can turn to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Have her take breaks frequently when typing. There are also some hand exercises she can do in between times. Look it up on the net.

This is not normal. She definitely needs an ergonomic keyboard if she types a lot. Prolonged typing on regular keyboard might cause the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/carpal_tunnel/detail_carpal_tunnel.htm)
When typing for a long time it is also important to make breaks, like every hour or so and massage your wrists for a minute or two.

Yes, it is very possible. I've been doing straight data entry (typing for literally 8 hours a day) for almost three years now and my hands are really starting to feel it. Research some ergonomic information and let her know about it. It would also be good to go see your doctor since this could lead up to tendonitis or carpal tunnel. It's no joke and it can happen.

When I have to type pages and pages of words then yeah they start to hurt, but I've been typing for years and I like typing more than writing so I tend to do it more.

Hands are just like any other part of the body. You over use them, or when you haven't used them in a while and they'll get sore. Cramps you know...

She's fine.

Well, as you have heard they can hurt a lot. My job requires constant typing & I have been lucky. My hands never ever hurt, but my back and butt sure do after sitting for prolonged periods of time.

It sure can be. Mine do, because I'm arthritic. It can also happen if you are not positioned properly in front of the keyboard... the right height, etc. I'm always typing WRONG so it's no wonder my hands hurt after awhile! LOL

Best Wishes,

Sue

God yes they do. My wrists also hurt to the point where I have to take a break. My suggest to her is there is a pad you can get to rest your hands on while you type. She can also use a heating pad or ice on her hands to make them feel better. Depending on her age, ibuprofen helps with pain and swelling.

sure is. depending on the exact amount of typing a bit of carpal tunnel may be going on, or just some hand cramping possibly. needless to say, any pain or discomfort is enough to at least get the doctor to check it out, at least to ease both you and your daughters' mind
