for instance why do you suppose there are more referance books on the Bible than the written works of non-religious authors.
Concordances, commentaries, lexicons, interlinear etc.

Well, the way I look at it, we don't have any PROOF God exists and we don't have any PROOF God doesn't exist.
The real question is - How did we get here and is there a reason we are here?
None of us really know the answers to those questions because we don't have solid proof of anything.
I think really religious people that ignore science are stupid - like some who say the earth is onlt 10,000 years old!!!! - please, you can't ignore science. The earth is not 10, 000 years old or we would not be finding million year old fossils! But there are some who refuse to believe - just like some refused to believe the earth is really round when it was first discovered it is not flat, and that the earth doesn't revolve around the sun like once believed!
Being human is a journey of endless discoveries. We shouldn't be ignorant and say science is wrong. Science offers many benefits - like health and the end to illness (which many religious folks believe will happen when Jesus returns - but whos to say if Jesus isn't using science to achieve this utopia?)
Anyhow - to say there is no God is stupid and to say there is a God is stupid - we don't know - no proof.

I don't think it's small minded. I just don't think they understand. I believe there is a bit of a superiority complex in some, but not all. It is like a similar attitude that I myself would have if I were surrounded by those in Asian countries that worship their ancestors. After about a week of seeing their rituals and such and me with an understanding that I have learned truth and ancestor worship is not it...I could get frustrated and if I didn't have love in my heart, I could get rude when discussing their faith with them.
"Hey you guys, this is stupid! Why do you talk and pray and make offerings to dead people?! They can't hear you!"

I think many don't mean to sound coarse or rude, but just plain don't understand. Some never will but for those who have a genuine interest, it behooves me as a christian to at least try to make an attempt at an honest open exchange. I don't always live up to it but it is something I try to do.

There have been so many intelligent people throughout history that were not only scientists but christians that have written many things. They have learned the truth and we are blessed to have these sources of knowledge and understanding. I personally love C. S. Lewis. He wrote not just as a christian, but as a man. He understood the nature of humanity and through his writtings, you can see he had a true love of his fellow man. A fruit of the spirit I might add. I wish he were still alive and I could sit down and talk with him.
As believers in God, we have such a deep source well of love and understanding in which to draw to be a credit to mankind. To the friendly and to the not so friendly.

You have a monopoly on truth based on a book that was written thousands of years ago by men who thought the world was flat and disease was caused by demons. Throw in some talking snake and flying rabbits and you got the definition of Stooopid.

You are right.
Just as it is small minded of religious people to think that all atheists are stupid.
The difference between the two?
I think more religious people try and push their religion on others than atheists try and push non-religion onto people with beliefs.
I don't know why, maybe we atheists are just lazy.

Crazy Horse has some good things there, a bit flowery at times, but otherwise good.

I don't assume people are stupid, I assume that they probably haven't thought very hard on the subject. If someone takes the time out to really evaluate what they believe and they still choose to believe in a god, I'm happy for them. They found what works for them. I just want people to realize that life without religion is pretty amazing and free. Not for everyone, but I'm sure for quite a few people who now have convinced themselves that god exists.

isn't it rather stupid minded of god believing people to assume that all atheists are wrong? when will you all realize that we are all narrow minded!!!! once you have accepted that there will always be atheists and there will always be people of god and just get over it!!
we all wast soooooooooooooo much time fighting eachother when we should be focousing on issues that effect us all. if you do not beileve in global warming, then believe that God is messing up the world to destroy us again. we all need to work to gether so be nice to some one today!

Yes,
until believers answer their questions stupidly.....how many stupid answers to rational questions must you collect before you start naturally assuming a certain degree of stupidity in believers?
I'm a believer myself, and I don't like this, which is why I try to answer questions intelligently.

For all you believers out there who try to prove things with the bible, what other (non-religious) catagory of questions in life can be answered or proved by refering to only one book?

yes it is, infact some of the most educated people in the world believe in obsurdities... (that opens a whole new topic on intelligence, because intelligence really is relavtive, however societiy takes a prescribed stereotypical view of intelligence)

Any hoo...it also depends on ones definition of god......

here's something interesting..

I once knew someone who had is own religous denomination and god was the pussy goddess velora (his definition of god)

now, tdoes that make him seem stupid? Something to think about

He's a very intelligent guy

Actually it is small minded of believers in GOd to believe that people who have doubts about the fairytail you believe. Why is it believers in God think they have the right to belittle and name call everyone that sees things differently than they do.

i think it is very close minded of a person to just completely oust on a religion or non religion in atheist's case. everyone is different and not anybody and everybody believes the same thing whether they are exactly the same religion or not.
everyone deserves their own opinion, but also their own chance for it to be heard.
think about it.
