i get nervous a lot in spanish too when our teacher does that
i hear ya
before you speak, take a deep breath
shake it off if u pronounce wrong or say the wrong word
be attentive before the teacher comes to you so by the time he asks you, you are familiar with the answer
notice that not everyone is perfect, and u dont have to be either

I am a Spanish teacher. Let your teacher know how nervous you are and that you know the answer but freeze up, also that you don't like how others laugh/snicker when you make a mistake - he should put a stop to that if he wants his students to learn to speak. Perhaps he can give you a heads up as to which question he'll ask you in advance so you can write it down in preparation.

Carvedablo, Ola! Hey, dont worry if the kids laugh, I am sure there are not perfect either. It's not English -- youre learning! Just like when you learned to walk and when you learned to speak your own language, you're gonna make mistakes -- and that's ok, that's what you SHOULD be doin' - makin' mistakes. Because that means your trying! And THAT means you're learning!
Ok, I teach languages. I also learn languages (I'm trying to learn Chinese right now). My boyfriend is Chinese. HE laughs at me when I make a mistake -- but you know what? I know he loves me. Ok, maybe the kids dont love you, but I find that those who laugh are the ones who are the most nervous themselves. The reason my boyfriend laughs at me is because he learned French before he learned English and sometimes his English is really "interesting"!
Look, my best advice. Two things you should know. No. 1 - your teacher is human and your teacher wants the best for you. Go to him and tell him, "I want to learn" (be sure you do) "but I'm scared when you ask questions -- I am so scared of screwing up -- I need your help." Tell him that.
Next, why learn Spanish? Remember, you are learning one of the oldest and most amazing languages on the planet -- amazing because sooooo many people speak it. It's not grammer you are learning, you are learning the way to communicate with another person's soul.
Think about what you want to do someday. Think of yourself as that professional "something" that you really like. Then imagine that there is this really great somebody who does the same thing. They are soooooo interesting, only he or she only speaks Spanish. Think about them in Spain, or Argentina, or Mexico -- look into their eyes. Now, dont you want to know what's in their soul? What have they seen? What do they know? Maybe they are like the quantum physicist in Mexico, or maybe they are the Poet lauriet of Mexcio who won the nobel prize -- dont you want to know what they know?
THAT's why you learn a language...not to be perfect, but to open windows between souls!
Good luck. Just by asking the question lets me know that you will lose that fear; you are so ready to drop it now!

I wish I knew the answer to this one too. My Spanish teacher is a pain in the bottom. He doesn't explain anything and then wonders why people have problems. I have an A in his class but can understand how very frustrating it is to try to learn from someone who barely cares and knows they embarrass people in front of the class

Ok, this is gonna sound scary, but you should talk to your teacher. Lots of other people deal with this same problem, and if you express your concern to him then he can help you solve the problem in a confidential way so you're not embarrassed. Trust me, he will be flattered that you are concerned about the class, and teachers are here to help, that's why they are teachers. They like helping people. What have you got to lose?

Well, #1 -- Remember why you're there. You're not there to make friends or please anyone but the teacher, so stop worrying about interacting with the other kids unless you have to break into teams to practice conversation or something. #2 -- study. It sounds like you're not putting any effort into the class because you're too preoccupied with the other students, especially the weird kid who seems to like annoying you. Study, sweety -- then you don't have to be nervous about the teacher calling on you. Go to class with your homework done so you won't be clueless.

Public speaking is the number 1 fear people have. Speaking in a dialect that you're not that comfortable with is even harder.
But seriously, singing a song in your head beforehand helps. And remember that all the other people in that room are probably nervous about it too.

When you can mention it to the teacher that you are nervous.
See if the teacher will give you some practice work to make you more comfortable.
Find someone you can practice with ....
Take a deep breath and do your best to ignore everyone else.
best,
