It's kind of strange, but I sleep late, alot, and when I wake up in the morning I feel tired but just shake it off, and then it just goes away. However, lately I've been trying to fall asleep earlier, but the weird thing is that I actually wake up much more tired than when I sleep late.

What's wrong with this picture?

As someone mentioned it could be seasonal affective disorder. Has the fatigue and sleeping more than usual started in the last two months? Alot of people in the late fall and winter, due to a decreased amount of sunlight, tend to sleep more, eat more and have decreased energy. Some sensitive people develop full-blown major depressive episodes whereas others just have a few milder symptoms. Simply spending more time outside in the daytime may help alleviate your sleepiness and fatigue.

There is such a thing as too much sleep which makes you more tired for some reason.

According to the WebMD article "Researchers found "long" sleepers who sleep more than eight hours a night report just as many sleep complaints as "short" sleepers who get less than seven hours of slumber.
Specifically, both long and short sleepers reported more problems sleeping than those who slept a full eight hours, and they shared similar complaints, such as:
•Difficulty falling asleep
•Wakening during the night
•Waking up too early
•Not feeling refreshed after waking up
•Daytime sleepiness
Researchers say the problems associated with too little sleep have been widely studied, but very little is known about the effects of sleeping more than eight hours a night.

In the study, published in the March/April issue of the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, researchers looked at data from 100 adults interviewed for the National Sleep Foundation's 2001 Sleep in America Poll. The participants were asked how much they slept on a typical workday, whether they had any sleep problems, and how their sleep affected their daily functioning.

Researchers found a U-shaped relationship between the number of sleep problems reported and their total sleep time. In other words, sleep problems were reported more commonly for both short and long sleepers than for those who sleep approximately eight hours.

The study showed sleep problems were common in both long and short sleepers, and women were more likely to be long sleepers than men.

Researchers say the findings focus attention to the long overlooked problems of the long sleepers. It does contribute to a greater understanding of mortality risks of long sleepers in that it has begun to isolate individual sleep complaints and has indicated that some aspect of sleep must be disturbed."

So I hope that helps.

You could have depression or nightmares from stress.
It would not hurt to see a doctor, just do not let the doctor rush you out with a quick depression diagnosis. It maybe depression but make them listen before deciding. Good luck!
If nightmares a weak or two of Ambien CR - it is not physically or mentally addicting so you can take it just long enough to reset your sleep pattern.

Maybe you are sleeping too much? Or this thing called 'seasonal affect disorder'? Not much help, I know. When I have trouble sleeping I exercise more and that almost always helps.

depression could be a factor -- also with sleep the more you get the more you want -- also you could have a breathing problem like sleep apnea -- taht will cause you not to get enough oxygen so you feel more tired

Sounds like sleep apnea, but I am no doctor and you need to see yours. I f you dream a lot, you are not sleeping deeply enough to rest your mind and body.
