Most Buddhists are on a path to enlightenment through the 7 fold path as the teaching of Buddha,and have been handed down for ages. enlightenment is never easy.

Most Buddhists are pacifists. I'm sorry that you ran into one that has a chip on her shoulder. It's really hard to practice Buddhism without a sense of the equanimity toward all humankind.

The Buddha serves as an get at the same time, he does no longer exist as an absolute authority. study his words (and words attributed to him that would were written by persons), appreciate it, attempt inclusive of his options, and be open to the experiments that artwork. No 'following' needed.
