Creationism is that the universe came from nothingness. Usually this implies a Greater Power being responsible for it's creation.

In a nutshell, it means that there are people who believe that if a year, or a century, or a millenium wasn't expressly mentioned in the bible, then it never happened; that God created man out of the clay that He had already created, and that this is not a metaphor for the pondscum that He had already created, or for the whole process of evolution; everything in the bible is literally true, and there can be no truth which was not included in the bible.

It means that everything was created. It didn't just happen. The evidence of creation, as opposed to evolution/big bang theory is in the beauty and intricacy of all that we see around us...on earth and otherwise.

You might be very surprised by this answer. An internet search will reveal this irony.

The Scientists call this "evolution".
The Creationists call it (by) "intelligent design".
In other words the Creationists and the evolutionists have agreed on basics of all things, the way that things exist and change. They simply disagree as to how it got started.
The evolutionists believe it was started by accident or happenstance.
The creationist believe it started by someone outside our solar system or whatever.
By "someone", they are referring to God, or a supreme being, or an extra-terrestrial.

Its a word summarized to say, That we were created by some type entity, which people like the term "God", hence knowing this they look up the word and realize they must bow. Even though its just a title. The religous definition ofcourse.
