Don't worry about your Puddy cat, She can and will look after herself quite well, sounds like you are a cat lover n over protective for good reason.
Many ppl hate cats for killing wildlife and birds, digging up gardens to poop., so they set baits n traps B*stards they are.

Me i luv mine unconditionally and spoil her heaps, but like you I get nervous when she won't come to my call, but cats are haughty and come when ready usually hungry or cold..

So chill and just enjoy her company and lock her up at night to protect her from stray dogs and nasty ppl....♥

Ps My female cat is 14 yrs old and going good, cos she is loved:-)

one of the things that often happen to our cats as they get older is that their hearing becomes less acute... even dull when they get to their late teens. Your cat may have honestly not heard you calling her over the rain... Sometimes too, our cats will decide not to caome when we call all becuase they are not ready to come in (my 8 year old does that). If she is eating, drinking and walking about and not showing any signs of distress, she's OK.

Oh, now that she is older, perhaps it will be a really good thing for you to keep her indoors and let her out only when you can be with her. Do not allow her to roam on her own now... too dangerous.

No, don't panic.
As they get older, they get VERY stubborn and sometimes will totally ignore you one day, and be all over u the next.
Also, her hearing could be deteriorating so she might not have heard you with the rain and everything.
To test her, put her over one side of the room, u over the other, and clap your hands or make some sudden noise, if she turns towards you or bolts for it, you'll know she can hear just fine and was just being stubborn.
if she doesn't even flinch, u could take her to the vet if u wanted, but just because her hearing is gone, it doesn't mean she is gonna die. You might just have to keep her in the house so she knows when ur feeding her and everything.
Good Luck!
Alison

If you're overly sensitive, so are a lot of the rest of us. My cats aren't really allowed outside without a harness and leash attaching them to me. The 2 times my cat slide through my legs out the front door, I went crazy with worry--and I could see her not more than 20 steps in front of me (but she would not come in and thought she was hot stuff out there where she knew she wasn't supposed to be). After calling her for about 30 mins (middle of the night, neighbors were delighted to be woken up by me) I decided to go inside to scare her--it worked and she came to the door but as soon as I opened it to let her in, she ran back to her 20 paces away. Eventually, I did manage to grab her and drag her in but this whole time she was out, my heart was beating so fast I thought I was going to have a coronary. Your kitty might have heard you but didn't come to your call simply because it was raining hard and since she'd found a safe place she didn't want to step out in the rain just to get back home--that's what I'd be doing, waiting til the rain stopped or at least let up.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry & hope she's back by now! Of COURSE you're sensitive, & that's good. The only thing in the world that could make me fall apart would be to lose my kitty, or any harm come to her. You are NOT overreacting! (My kitty just said "hello" from the other room, so I had to go out there & let her know I'm still alive & well & not glued to my PC chair--she's in her "donut bed") I start out NEVER letting my cats out of the house. Too many things can happen to them. I had a male who was tempted once, & pushed out the screen. I was climbing fences & almost screaming before I cornered & grabbed him. But in time, he just didn't care about going out. If you start out that way, they'll learn to be quite content. Oh I do so hope she comes back, or you do everything you can to find her!

Like us, when cats grow older, their sense of hearing may not be as sharp. She may not of heard you with the heavy downpour (it tends to drown out sound).

But if she's getting old, and you're that worried about her, I would try to keep her inside. Older cats aren't as strong as they used to be, and they don't know it. They still pick fights with other cats, jump long distances and hide in dangerous places (under cars and woodpiles). Your kitty may protest at first, but its for her own good. She'll live longer and more comfortably.

P.S. You weren't over-reacting. You were just worried about your baby! I think anyone who has owned a cat can sympathize with you.

don't be cruel when she gets really old. I saw an old cat having an agonising death when its muscles get weak it stranled for days in a yard stuck in a footbridge. Get a new lil cat as yours gets infirm and hard as it is give it a kiss and put it to sleep

I do the same thing with my cat, and she is only 5 years old. I can't stand him, but at the same time I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to him.
