I have been using Limewire for years and never ever received a virus from downloading music. I heard people got viruses on their computer from downloading just music, but its hard to believe. I personally don't believe you can get it from downloading just music. I know software and pc games you can, but what about mp3 files?

Contrary to what people may think, if you download ONLY an .MP3 file, and play it on a reputable player, you can NOT obtain a virus.

Viruses are transmitted through macros, programs and the like. An MP3 is simply a file, not an executable that could infect you. A shady or hacked Limewire installation may inject your computer with a "virus" but not by downloading an MP3.

Rest assured.

The people you've probably heard about more than likey did not download a music file when they got a virus on limewire. There is many viruses disguised as other things on limewire. I've only been tricked once myself and fortunately norton caught it right away.

MP3 files you cannot obtain a virus. And for any other file that might contain a virus, Limewire 95% of the time finds it corrupt and kills the download or if you have a secruity system it should catch it before it downloads too.

Ok let me tell you this. I have been using Limewire for years as well. Never got a bad file. Never got a virus or anythign similar. Those people who got infected by whatever were probably downloading PORN and thats why they got infected. Probably the movies they downloaded were infected and thats how they got it! But most likely from mp3 files you are not going to get anything.

Yes I have before, but I use avast and i havent gotten any. My strategy to not get a virus anymore is to look at all the results and compare the file size. If they are very similar, I think the file is trustworthy. But yes it is possible, they are implemented into files or also look like mp3s but are really viruses.

Try WE7 - this is a legal music download site, the only thing is that you have to put up with a 4-5 second ad at the beginning of each song, there are a lot of great unsigned artists on there, also you can choose from all genres.

It is Possible. Any file you download could harbor a virus. If you have reasonably reliable anti-virus protection and firewall enabled shouldn't be that big a risk, they should block them. But just when you think you are safe the inevitable happens!
