You probably WON'T be able to speak to him soon.
They are allowed to call parents or spouses and say that they've arrived at Boot Camp and then there is limited or no phone contact for about 4 weeks. He can get mail though, so write to him every day. Your letters will be very encouraging to him during this challenging time. If he is to succeed he needs your support, so limit the negative talk in your letters. He knows you miss him but if that is all you write about it will make things harder for him.
Part of the pyschology of basic training is that the recruits are intentionally separated from the outside world so that they can become part of the team. It's really hard work, be proud of your guy.
Keep busy. Volunteer your time somewhere to help someone else. Tell your girlfriends how much you miss him and tell HIM that you know he can do well and that you are proud of him.

Amanda,

It all depends on the training instructor. Some allow Recruits to call on a regular basis some don't.

I got one call while I was in Basic. But I know some flights that got to call weekly.

Hang in there. Usually you don't get to call until 3rd week of training.

your boyfriend can call after they get into a certain stage like they call them different colors. my boyfriend went to basic training and he couldn't call till like a month b4 he was to leave basic and he got to call 3 times and they were each on Sunday and it sucked cuz I missed 2 of those phone calls. I hope he's gotten your address so yall can write each other back and forth. That is what me and my boyfriend did. It was just as great as a phone call except its not so cool wen mail is takin tooo long to get a letter to ya. but anyways.. if he goes to AIT, which I think everyone does wen they get out of basic?? he can definitely call you then. hes gunna be busy a lot but most likely he can call you once everyday, (mainly at night time)
but yeah i hope this info helps ya! :)

Our friend just got out of basic and he called almost every sunday. I think it may depend on where he is stationed. But I'm sure he will be able to call some if not once a week.

My husband is Army but he got to call towards the last half of basic training, usually on Sunday morning for 5 minutes.

It will be o.k., write him lots of letters and hopefully you'll get one from him soon!

My husband went to Parris Island (USMC) and only called once the week before he came home. I hope you get to hear from your man more often, though!

hmmm. my hubbie (then bf) is army and during basic he got three phone calls and the first had to be to his parents (we weren't married yet so i wasn't technically family). since your bf is air force it might be a little more lenient.
good luck

I remember only being allowed to send one post card.

No phone call.

It may have changed.

Hang in there :)
