I don't think that cats are ever content so how would anyone know the answer to this question?? It seems that they do purr when petted but I think that is an indication they want more not that they are content. Same thing with sleeping I think they sleep because they are exhausted from all the snooping they do. More so sleeping from exhaustion rather than being content.

It depends on the cat, really. I know cats purr when they are happy, sleepy, and I read somewhere that they purr when sick. I s'pose they'll fall asleep when content, or close their eyes in a look of satisfaction. Am I close?

They purr and relax, often closing their eyes partially, and flicking tail softly.

Mine curl up on my lap and sleep, and they sometimes groom each other as well.
