first of all what ever temperature you have it at is probably to high. have it at medium or lower. and also don't use oil, use a little butter before you put the steak in. butter is always the secret ingredient.

Thin fry pans will make your food much more prone to burning. I know because for the second time this week, I used a thin fry pan and burned the food. I have an aluminum fry pan with a thick bottom, and it is nearly fool proof!
Best of luck, my Smokey Friend!

Put a little butter in a COLD pan. Heat over med-medlow heat until the butter is melted and spread it around the pan. Raise heat to high (but don't burn the butter), quickly sear both sides of the steak. Turn heat back down to med and cook until desired doneness. (Or, buy a George Forman grill)

Don't cook on high heat. Turn the temperature down to medium or less. Cooking on high temperature will burn food really quickly. Best thing is to spray pan before cooking, make sure temperature is on an average heating temperature and then start cooking. Good luck!!

Medium rare
no oil. the fat of the meat should be enough. first - top of stove, iron skillet if possible, let skillet heat before putting steak in, high heat about 3 min. each side. second - put in medium oven 5 min. third - let rest (no heat) 5 min.
thickness - about 1 - 1.25"
ps - additional thickness will add time to first instruction

A medium heat, I wouldn't put oil in the pan. Turn on the exhaust fan.

Well maybe you have the stove cut up too high or maybe you let it cook too long.
