Now this is a good question with an easy answer, but some people find it difficult to understand.
Let's start by looking at the geography. The British Isles is an archipelago of over 1000 islands that stretch from the Oust Islands in the far north of the North Sea to the Scilly Islands at the Western Approaches of the Atlantic and includes the Chanel Islands only a few miles off the coast of Brittany in France.
The British Isles includes islands that are not part of Great Britain or of the United Kingdom, these are the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey and the Isle of Man (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not in the EU either).
Great Britain is the largest of the islands comprising of England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The official name of the country is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - the second longest official country name in the world.

Britain is England, Wales and Scotland (based on the order they 'united').
The UK is those 3 plus Northern Ireland (a province) AND the Channel Islands AND the Isle of Man. United under one Crown (though not one Parliament).
European law applies in all of the UK.
