Yikes! That's alot of money! I'd never want a guy to spend that much money on my engagement ring. I could buy a car for that much! The ring sounds beautiful. It'll be worth it if your girl truely appreciates everything that you do for her. I'd never want a ring that big though. 1/2 kt is just fine for me : )
Good luck.

My engagement ring has 7 tiny diamonds down each side, 1/2 carat princess cut center stone and is color G clarity SI1 and it cost $3300. The weight of your center stone is more and the clarity is a little better. So the price you paid sounds reasonable. And even though the clarity is not that good, it sparkles soooo much. I have had people tell me how beautiful it is and one lady even said it was sparkling so much it hurt her eyes!

Probably not. Check out Blue Nile online. They're usually not that cheap and you can probably get something similar to that for $1000 less from them. That said, you should be able to get an even bigger discount from any jeweler not located in a mall or with a name brand like Tiffany's. With a diamond merchant you can negotiate and bargain to a certain degree so I'd shop around more.

Sounds like you did OK. Though the color leans towards the yellow scale a bit, you did get a stone that had very few inclusions (VS1), so I bet its got lots of sparkle. I'm sure your girl will love it. Us girls LOVE diamonds, at least this girl does.

WOW that's a lot!
Frankly, I'd rather have my guy spend around/less than $1,000 on an engagement ring and put the other $3700 towards a downpayment on a home or car.

Yeah it sounds good. Did you get a discount? And how many carats total? If the center was almost ideal and good color/clarity, then it wasn't a bad deal.
CONGRATS!!!!

Well, you spent way too much on the ring in general, not necessarily on that specific one. Most women like to have something not as expensive, so they can wear it every day. It's meant to be a symbol, not an investment!

Retail have upto a 300% markup. Paying that much for a ring is insane.

I can't tell you without a picture but 4,500 was the going price when we were shopping in Chicago for a similar ring.

The going price, that's what I paid for my round cut. Same stats as you mentioned.
