if you want really simple, use 1clickdvd and dvd43. it gives high level control of what you want to copy, menus, etc and will shrink to fit a 4.7g dvd (or exact copy to a double layer).

clone2dvd is another good one. gives you a lot more control over the content being copied down to chapters.

Also, i like AnyDVD better than dvd43. AnyDVD and clone2dvd can be purchased as a package. pretty cheap too.

dvd43 is free (used to be dvd4free). 1Clickdvd is packaged with copy2dvd (i think).

There are 3 apps that you will need for all your dvd burning:
dvdshrink, dvd decrypter and ripit4me. Those 3 apps will rip and shrink any dvds in existence right now. Be sure to read the faqs on ripit4me before using it becuase it will required dvdshrink and dvd decrypter to be install first. It's super easy to use with just 1 click .

I believe that DVD Shrink It is free Free and anyone who makes you pay is scamming. Because it is older, sometimes you have to decrypt first. I am decrypting as we speek to play an German DVD on an American player with the also free DVDFab decrypter.

Email me if you need more help!

Note that this is technally illigal, but I find it completly moral if one OWNS the dvd they wish to backup or strip the region coding from.
