For no apparent reason, she's so terrified of wearing shoes. Even just the mere act of putting a sock on her foot sets her cringing and fighting and crying. This worries us a lot as she's now beginning to walk and we don't want her walking around barefooted all the time.

Put then on her while she's asleep.. my little brother used to be terrified of putting a shirt on if you had to pull it over his head. We just started putting them on him while he was sleeping and eventually he got to where he would let you put them on him while he was awake. He was almost 2 when that happened, so I guess it's a normal thing.

Take her to the store with you and just gush over the shoes. Look at all of the shoes and act like they are just the cutest things you have ever seen. Then, let her pick a pair that she really likes. Even if they are the ugliest shoes in the world, they are still shoes. Every time she puts on the shoes, emphatically insist that the shoes are just the cutest things and that she looks so cute in them.

Good luck!

Have you tried Robeez, or a similar soft leather shoe? I know they're not all that warm but it is better than going barefoot.

... perhaps the first pair of shoes she wore were too tight and hurt her, that would explain the reasoning behind her being afraid of shoes.
