Absolutely! I had my first camera when I was 7 or 8 years old. That was a film camera. Digital cameras cost a bit more, but then you don't have to buy any more film. You can takes dozens and dozens of pictures until you figure out how to take good pictures. You just get the ones you like printed.

Sure, I think it is a great age to get into photography. I was 11 r 12 when first got interested in taking pictures. One note, digital cameras need to be handled carefully so if you get one, be responsible with it and keep it in the case when not in use.

Sure, I got my first camera when I was 12. Just ask your parents for a less expensive/durable camera. You'd be surprised at how many times I dropped my camera, so it was very helpful to have a bigger stronger camera.

I don't see a problem with that, as long as you keep your expectations reasonable. I was 12 forty years ago, and I had a camera a couple of years by then.

That is an awesome present. I would go with digital so he can see his mistakes. you can buy a decent kid friendly one for under 40 bucks
I bought my 8 and 9 year old one for there birthdays and they love em! It makes them see the world in a different POV.
Who knows, you may have an ansel adams on your hands!

I think it would be great!
Ask for a beginner's book on photography, too.
Read your camera's manual to better understand what the controls are and how they affect your images.
Then practice! (That is the fun part!)
I hope Santa is good to you!

I think it's ok and maybe even younger. Don't expect the best, you need to learn the basics. Nice hobby to get into, and alot of fun. Good luck

sure, why not? Are you asking for film or digital? Are you going to use it a lot? If so, ask for digital. You can get a good one for about $200, I believe.
