Your question reads "How does a cat know if it exits?". A cat will know when it exits by the breeze across its furr, provided it exited to the outside, and not just from one room to another. Now, if it exits one of those doors in a hospital or office building that says "EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY", then it will know by the loud piercing siren noises and all the people stepping on its tail as they flee.

EDIT: Oops, 3 people beat me to it. When I clicked Answer no one had given the snotty answer. At least now I can take solice in the fact that I was not the first snot.

A cat knows it exits when it darts out the door if you leave it open too long. Also, if it walks through a door with an exit sign over it, then it knows for sure that it has found the exit. Any more brain busters?

Cats are really smart and they can tell the difference between being outside and being inside. For example, when they hear the door open, they know a portal to the outside has opened as well and they run for that opening.

Well sense you asked about a cat specifically we can go with that--a cat knows the same way we know we get cold, hungry angry , sad, playful etc--its the emotional being of life--that and they have the need to sharped their claws on the furniture to give it the rugged look :-) its their job and they do it well --that and hunting all the creepy crawly things they bring you as gifts because they love you --that's another job -- its all part of what makes them tick --that would be a sense of existence --So Doc what is your expaination here --you say you know and I just told you what I DO KNOW to be TRUE--Soo??? :-) Let yer rip

if you mean "how does a cat exit thru a hole?" then that's simple, if they're whiskers touch the sides of the hole then they wont fit but if they don't touch the cat will continue thru the opening.

If it exits? It's gone through a door or a window. Same way we do.

I asked Number One Cat. And he said, "I EAT, therefore I AM."

He's a profound cat... sometimes I have trouble understanding him.

Is this supposed to be a joke? I really don't know the answer besides what others are saying.
