Many PC video games can teach math and spelling and history and music and... in a fun way that would be drudgery if you had to learn the same stuff via flash cards. I have three high achievers - boys 9, 7, 5. We limit the time and allow no mindless shoot-em-up or similar. Timez Attack is an awesome example of fun learning. Here you're learning multiplication but without drill-n-kill. Awesome.

I am against both computer games and video games. A good book to read is called Failure to Connect. That really opened my eyes about kids and computers. The author isn't totally against computers but helps you figure out how to use them most effectively.

Video games are like anything else fun and exciting...and a Hobby but I think it's unhealthy to sit in front of them for hours on end..it's good to mix it up a little...if they like sport games...play that sport! Its truely like any other activity in a childs life..if you aren't there to be part of it and provide guidance they will go out of control and one thing i've always noticed about kids..when you forbid something, it just encourages their desire for that..

I think that certain video games are ok, depending on whatt kind of games. However, there is a lot of violent games that young children should not play.

If the video games are really violent it's better not to buy them until there old enough, besides that I don't mind them either.
