When God was speaking this statement to the Hebrew people, He was reminding them that He was the God Who had been with them from the beginning of their journey to the Land of Promise. But He also wants every Christian to realize that even though we can realize that He is the God of the heavens and of the earth, we must also always make certain that we are allowing Him to be the Lord of our lives. For you see, we can receive Jesus Christ as the Savior of our soul, and yet still fail in allowing Him to be the Lord of our life. By this I mean, that even though we may fully realize the reality of God Almighty, and allow Jesus Christ to be our Savior, we can still fail in allowing Him to be the Lord of our life. By this I mean, we may fail to allow Him to have full control of our life. There are many Christians who never allow Jesus to continue being their Lord after they once get saved. Jesus only remains our Lord, when we continue to walk in obedience to his Holy Word, and allow his Holy Spirit to be the guide of our life each day; consulting Him in every decision which we must make. God Jehovah most certainly is the supreme God of the heavens and the earth, but is He also the Lord of our life? Every one of us must ask ourselves this question each day. Are we allowing Him to have full control of our life? Give it some thought.

Well, the word God is not a name. It means " figure of worship ". For example, people who work all their lives just to make more money. Money would be their god.

So that commandment is say that The Lord is the only figure of worship you should have. Everything else comes second.

He is suppose to be your God, and the only God in your life.

Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
Deuteronomy 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

It means that we are to have no other gods before him and no other gods after him. We need to fully devote our whole life and heart to him. Praising him in everything we do, Thanking him for everything and praying about everything. God is a jealous god, believe it or not (he's not sinning, he's God) he wants ALL of our attention, and he totally deserves it, come on, he created us.
