The best thing you can do at work is crack clean jokes, agree with everything, smile, and run. Don't let them know about your personal life or they'll have fun with that too. It's too bad about the drama if you have to spend 8 hours a day with these people.

Yep you do unless you are in a position to change it!
I think that a LOT of it comes from the "ENTITLED GENERATION" that have been told how WONDERFUL they are by their parents since birth. The whole feel good thing is school and they EXPECT the same from the workplace. HAH, if work were always fun, they would call it VACATION! They just do NOT know any better.
Talk to your supervisor or manager and tell him / her that it is having a negative affect upon your productivity and ask for suggestions how to deal with it.
You won't sound "bitchy" and he / she will appreciate your candor.
Happy Holidays,
J

I have the same problem at work. I have right next to me the most negative person. Complains about everything, nothing is good enough, etc. What I do is listen my I-pod, I focus on have my job done and keep my personal life private. If they make comments about something and seems like they are looking for your opinion just say "well everyone is different" Nevertheless, the best thing to do is do not say anything. Just be neutral, smile and walk away as fast as you can! Hope it gets better for you. If it gets to the point that its uncomfortable perhaps you should move on. That's my philosophy!

There's drama everywhere, hun! Sorry! But I think the best thing to do at work is just brush it off, after all these are the people you DO NOT have to have a real social life with. I prefer to NOT know the people I work with too closely. And I deal with lots of people and I also feel that is best if they don't know me too personally as well. It makes for a much better working relationship and they stay at work not at my house. You know what I mean? Otherwise, work invades home and no one really wants work at home we all want home at home!
Good luck!
