"I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them on to you. "

This is a little ridiculous, don't you think, the only thing he adamantly indicates is the bread and the cup, and from a Jew (clearly as a sacrifice) and to confess (discern yourself) before hand. I could scream...

And that, my friends IS the context. The sacrifice and confession...

1Co 11:2 I praise you for remembering me in everything and for carefully following the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.

The traditions he taught were from the Old Testament!

Despite of the fact that the majority of so-called professing Christians feel the O.T. is not valid or irrelevant today, they err! B'cos the O.T. IS the N.T.'s foundation and is valid and relevant in this present day and age!

The Law and The Prophets IS The Old Testament!

Act 24:14 However, I admit to you that in accordance with the Way, which they call a heresy, I worship the God of our ancestors and believe in everything written in the Law and the Prophets.

Act 28:23 From morning until evening he continued to explain the kingdom of God to them, trying to convince them about Jesus from the law of Moses and the Prophets.

Rom 3:21 But now, apart from the law, God's righteousness is revealed and is attested by the Law and the Prophets.

That verse is not isolated. Here are others that basically say the same thing:

(1 Corinthians 4:17) I am sending Timothy...; and he will put YOU in mind of my methods in connection with Christ Jesus, just as I am teaching everywhere in every congregation.

(2 Thessalonians 2:15) So, then, brothers, stand firm and maintain YOUR hold on the traditions that YOU were taught, whether it was through a verbal message or through a letter of ours.

(2 Thessalonians 3:6) Withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the tradition YOU received from us.

The "traditions" must have included lots of things, not just the emblems of Christ.

First of all you need to read what Paul is addressing the Corinthians with, He is talking about headship, and using customs to convey it symbolically using hair,( you can read it and figure it out. Read what He says toward the end of this subject;

16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

It is not very intelligent to take one verse without reading the entire chapter.

I agree with China Rose. The Catholic Church's traditions go back to the time of the apostles.

Read the surviving scripture that was excluded from the bible. It gives us clues what the real Christians actually believed.

It is nearly the opposite of the nonsense the bible promotes.

please do not change the scriptures,to mean something different from what it is truly saying . God warned us about taking away or adding to his word. Paul was saying to hold to the Tradition exactly the way he delivered it to them. Keep reading 1cor 11 and you Will understand where he got the traditions.
